In this rebellious celebration of womanhood, we meet the women mostly known for their demise and learn more about them and their stories. So join us as we delve into the SIX The Musical characters.

Are the SIX The Musical characters real?

For all intents and purposes, yes! Each of the characters is based on one of Henry VIII’s wives. However, the male-dominated history books generally limit their tales to the King’s legend. SIX The Musical gives the ill-fated women the opportunity to stand up and yell for themselves. The show sees the wives recounting their experiences with the dastardly royal while battling for the role of lead singer in their band. But as the SIX The Musical characters realise they have been robbed of their individuality, they come together and create their own ending.

Catherine of Aragon

Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of Henry VIII and the catalyst for his dispute and departure from Pope Clement VII. During their marriage, Catherine suffered many child losses and produced only one heir, a daughter named Mary. This - plus his wandering eye - led the King to seek an annulment, which was denied by the church. While he tried to separate from her legitimately, Henry attempted to send Catherine to a nunnery despite her loyalty. Catherine’s big SIX The Musical song is “No Way.” 

Anne Boleyn

The subject of infatuation and later a victim of repeated history was Anne Boleyn - Henry VIII's second wife. While serving as maid-of-honour to Catherine, Anne caught Henry’s eye. In the show, she boasts about turning the head of the King. In real life, she was a key figure in the English Reformation. In the show, we hear of Anne's flirtations with other men when Henry’s attention is diverted by her maid-of-honour, Jane Seymour. This leads to her beheading and the song “Don’t Lose Ur Head.” 

Jane Seymour

Ridiculed for having the easiest time and being the only wife Henry truly loved, Jane defends her hardships to her fellow wives by claiming that his affection is conditional. As the mother of the King’s only legitimate, surviving son, Jane’s marriage met a natural end free of disgrace when she died in 1537 following complications in childbirth. In the show, she sings “Heart of Stone.”

Who are the current queens in Six the Musical?

The modern retelling of Britain’s monogamously challenged king focuses on the her-story of history. Nikki Bentley is the current Catherine of Aragon. The Performers College alum has had a thriving career in high-profile shows. From Kinky Boots at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to the green queen herself, Elphaba, in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, Nikki is making her mark in the history books. 

Thao Therese Nguyen currently stars as Anne Boleyn. Making her West End comeback, Thao performs all over the world. She previously appeared in Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre, and Inua in Confessions at the Other Palace Theatre. She’s also sung in concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and performed in the Royal Variety Show 2014.

Gabriella Styliano is Jane Seymour. Gabriella recently had to step into the role of Jane as the previous actor, Kayleigh McKnight, had injured her knee and could no longer perform. Gabriella trained at Arts Educational Schools of London and appeared in The Great British Bake Off Musical at the Noel Coward Theatre.

Reca Okay portrays Anna of Cleves. SIX The Musical is Reca’s West End debut. But it’s not her first time playing one of the ill-fated queens. Before joining the London cast, Reca was in SIX The Musical onboard the Norwegian Bliss. She’s also been in Sister Act, South Pacific, Big Rivers and Walt Disney World’s Festival of The Lion King.

Inez Budd plays Katherine Howard. Though only graduating from Arts Educational Schools London in 2020, Inez’s resume is already impressive. Her credits include the UK Tour of Grease, Heathers the Musical at Other Palace Theatre, But I’m a Cheerleader at The Turbine Theatre, and Emojiland at The Garrick Theatre to name but a few.

Janiq Charles is currently Catherine Parr. Playing the last of the SIX The Musical characters, Janiq is making the role her own. Her previous works include playing Nala in The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre.

The Vaudeville Theatre, located on The Strand, opened in 1870 and is close neighbours with the Adelphi Theatre and the Savoy Theatre. The theatre mostly staged vaudeville shows and musical revues in its early years and has been rebuilt twice in its lifetime. The original theatre, with its then capacity of 1046, stood behind two houses with its entrance via a maze of small corridors, meaning facilities front of house and backstage were extremely cramped.

The Vaudeville Theatre auditorium consists of Stalls, Dress Circle and Grand Circle and seats 690 theatregoers over its three levels. With a slight rake, the Stalls offer a very good view of the stage and sightlines and legroom are all good from this section. Due to the intimate size of the theatre the Dress Circle also offers good views of the stage however views from row G backwards are affected by the overhang of the Grand Circle above. The Grand Circle sits above the Dress Circle and therefore feels most distant from the stage, however, in such a cosy space you never really feel too far away from the action.

Six the Musical has today confirmed that the multi-award-winning musical will continue to rule the West End until 3 November 2024, extending its current run by six months (naturally). Heading the new reign will be a host of new, and returning, Queens. 

Reca Oakley, Gabriella Stylianou, and Meg Dixon-Brasil join the production having previously appeared in Norwegian Cruise Line versions of the musical. Natalie Pilkington returns to Six the Musical, having previously been part of the UK & Ireland tour, South Korean and Norwegian Cruise Line productions.

From humble beginnings as an Edinburgh Fringe show, SIX has become a runaway success, with a couple of hugely acclaimed UK tours, productions in Australia and most recently a glittering opening at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway. The London production has just moved to a new home at the Vaudeville Theatre and is, once again, thrilling audiences with its unique mix of Tudor history and contemporary references. 

It is her-story in the making as, for the first time ever, a completely new cast of West End queens, alternates and swings are being enthroned at London’s Vaudeville Theatre. The new cast of Six the musical will have their first performance on Tuesday, November 16.

The new queens set to storm the stage are Amy Di Bartolomeo, Amanda Lindgren, Claudia Kariuki, Dionne Ward-Anderson, Tsemaye Bob-Egbe and Meesha Turner. They are joined by Paisley Billings, Danielle Rose, and Roxanne Couch as Alternates, Rachel Rawlinson as Swing and Esme Rothero as Swing and Dance Captain.
